Neurosurgery One, Denver’s most comprehensive brain and spine care practice, has expanded its non-surgical and pain management spine services by adding physiatry services. Physiatry is the use of non-surgical treatments aimed at restoring function, reducing pain, and improving quality of life for patients.
Dr. Erasmus Morfe and Dr. Jason Peragine with Interwest Rehabilitation joined Neurosurgery One in May 2019. They will continue to treat patients at their current office, 26 W. Dry Creek Circle, Suite 390 in Littleton and also at Neurosurgery One’s Lone Tree clinic, 9980 Park Meadows Dr., Suite 101.
Both physicians are board-certified, fellowship-trained physiatrists focused on providing interventional non-surgical treatments to alleviate or manage pain caused by spine conditions. Both physicians offer full evaluations to accurately diagnose the underlying issue causing the dysfunction or pain. They then provide non-surgical treatments, including ultrasound-guided injections and IV sedation.
“We want to offer a comprehensive non-surgical option to treat spine pain,” says Dr. Morfe.
Dr. Morfe Brings A Holistic Approach
Dr. Morfe earned his medical degree at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Morfe also completed a fellowship in Spine and Sports Medicine at the Mayo Clinic.
As an osteopathic physician, Dr. Morfe brings a holistic approach to his practice, incorporating diet, lifestyle, and exercise with interventional procedures to maximize his patient’s quality of life and overall functional status. “If injections can provide a window of pain relief, patients can respond better to their overall health like weight loss,” he says. Dr. Morfe has a special interest in using a ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting to reduce overall systemic inflammation and hence pain.
Dr. Morfe is married with two college-aged human children and a third four-legged child, a black Labrador. “Outside of work, I’m very active. I like the outdoors so you can usually find me hiking, skiing or snowboarding.”
Dr. Peragine Builds Partnerships with Patients
Dr. Peragine, originally from South Florida, completed his residency training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He also completed a specialized fellowship in Spine and Interventional Pain Management.
Dr. Peragine’s care philosophy is to listen first, then discuss the options. He sees the practice of medicine as a partnership with his patients and encourages them to be an integral part of a patient-informed treatment plan. He has a knack for explaining the complexities of pain management in a way people can easily understand. Down to earth and realistic, Dr. Peragine helps his patients navigate the complexities of dealing with chronic pain disorders.
“I spend a lot of time with folks explaining what their options are, so they are part of the process. I like to build relationships based on mutual respect and find that those are most effective at improving a person’s health,” says Dr. Peragine.
Like his colleague, Dr. Peragine often can be found outdoors on a mountainside skiing down during winter or on a putting green in the summer. He is married with two middle-school aged children.
