Dr. David VanSickle, board-certified neurosurgeon and the nation’s leading expert in Robotic-Guided Asleep Deep Brain Stimulation was recently interviewed on the podcast, Your Life Depends on It, by host Mark Steele and Dr. Dave Schneider, MD.
After earning master’s and doctorate degrees in engineering, Dr. VanSickle heard a new calling and determined that a career as an engineer was not actually the path best suited for him. So he listened to the calling and bravely started over, walking a new path to become a neurosurgeon. Along the way, Dr. VanSickle discovered he is dyslexic. At the time, he had no way of knowing that the collision of his degrees combined with his need to come at learning from unorthodox directions would render him a revolutionary. He was on the path toward becoming a new thinker at the top of his field, and about to break history-making ground in the fight against Parkinson’s disease. In the process of redefining himself, Dr. VanSickle developed insights into what kind of people it requires to truly challenge the status quo in any field and make real progress.
